Washington DC Strip Clubs: Media should educate us about sex addiction

Shakespeare aptly noted the world is a stage. Curiously, it also serves as a platform for public education about humanity’s darker side.
On Friday, Tiger Woods stood before television viewers and acknowledged his sexual affairs and pain caused to his wife, family and fans. His admission stirred memories of another high profile and humbled individual, Wilbur Mills. With 36 years in Congress, Mills was once known as the “most powerful man in Washington.”
In the mid-1970s, Americans had scant understanding of the complexities of alcoholism. Myth and stigma surrounded this medical disorder.
When an intoxicated Wilbur Mills was discovered in a scandal with a Washington, D.C., stripper, he became the target of snickers, gossip and ridicule. Eventually, Mills, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, resigned from Congress and acknowledged his alcoholism. He went on to help increase the public’s understanding of this disease.
