WASHINGTON (AP) Senate Democrats have proposed a new, stripped-down version of a jobs bill they hope will still get support from both Republicans and Democrats. But Republicans have accused Democrats of reneging on their deal. The first version had unrelated provisions sought by lobbyists.
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) Ten Americans who have been in detention in Haiti for nearly two weeks could soon be freed. They face child kidnapping charges for attempting to take a busload of children to the Dominican Republic. A judge in Port-au-Prince says they should be released while authorities continue to investigate the case.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Two former Blackwater employees say the security company repeatedly billed the government for excessive or inappropriate expenses, including strippers and a prostitute. The allegations are contained in a federal lawsuit filed in Virginia.
